People of Hope!
I spent some time “white washing” some of the trim on our house a few years ago.  I needed something that would cover any stain I would encounter. After consulting with the friendly paint person at Home Depot we decided that “Kilz 2” would do it. Boy did it ever!
Bare wood? ……. Covered!
What about dirt stains? ….. Covered!
Is mildew a problem? ….. Covered!
Spider webs? …..Covered!
Spiders? ….. Covered!
What about those screaming neighborhood children? ….. Covered!
The garbage Man? ….. Covered!
It’s amazing how such a small can of paint can absolutely cover the worse of stains. You may look at your own life and see the stains of things you’ve done wrong. Sometimes people try to scrub the stains out by trying to live differently or by religious practice but in God’s eyes the stains are covered for the person who has trusted Jesus to cover them. Paul made a powerful point to those who trusted Jesus as their substitute in the judgment of God, “Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.” (Romans 4:4-8) All of our sins are covered by simply trusting God’s work instead of ours. When the “white washing” was done I was thrilled because I could see nothing but white where there were once stains. As one who has trusted Jesus, do you see yourself as God sees you? Forgiven? Stain free in his sight? “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18) By the way, the trim passed the Leslie test….. she only saw white.
Our mailer, inviting folks in our area to church, as been arriving in homes this week. It advertises a message series called “Fool proofing your life” and would be a great opportunity to invite that friend you’ve been reaching out to.
SMALL GROUPS – Starting now
A small group is a place to make friends, learn from the bible and support others as you meet in someone’s home. Many of our groups are starting up now so it would be a great time to get connected. Contact Jeff if you’d like to be part of one of these small communities;
A reminder that starting this Sunday the High school youth group will no longer meet on Sunday mornings but will begin meeting Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm here at the building during the evening service. This Sunday will be the first meeting. Elliott will provide family discussion questions on the information table for you to ask your youth on the way home from church after they join you in the service.
Learn the difference between major world religion – a different one each week. Takes place Sunday evenings at 6:00 starting this Sunday. Sign up online at our website.
WORK DAY – Saturday the 22nd
Save Saturday, September 22nd (rain or shine) to join in on a work day here at the building starting at 9:00 am. Many different projects will be ready for you. One of the major projects is pulling weeds and blackberry stocks that have taken over the landscaping.  We need people to bring heavy gloves, shovels, rakes, and clippers.  Maybe a couple more wheel borrows would be good too.
See you Sunday!
