People of Hope!
I bought some cigarettes yesterday.  Don’t worry…..I didn’t smoke ‘em. Let’s just say it was one of the many interesting things I’ve done through the years in the course of building a bridge to others. While I bought them, I found myself looking nervously around the store to see if I recognized anyone. I even told the cashier, “Heh heh… these aren’t for me…..I actually don’t smoke…..heh heh.” She looked at me out of the corner of her eye and said, “um…ok?”  I wonder how uncomfortable it was for Jesus to find himself in some of the situations he experienced? “Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.” (Luke 7:36-39) How totally awkward!! What was most important, however, was how the lost woman perceived His actions, not how the Pharisees perceived them. I’m sure you’ve found yourselves in similar situations with good intentions to reach out. Don’t shy back because of Pharisees around you.
