Hey people of Hope,
When I was in the 7th grade my mom dropped me off at my karate class and said she would pick me up when it was over. When it was over she wasn’t there. I waited….and waited….and waited. In my kids mind it seemed like I waited at least an hour before she finally showed up, and when she did…..not even an apology. Needless to say, I had a class A teenage ‘tude’ workin’. (Which my mom swiftly corrected, by the way). I believe her irritated response to me was, “I said I’d get you, and I did!” Our great hope is that Jesus will return one of these days according to His promise; but have you ever been tempted to wonder why He’s taking so long? Listen to what the apostle Peter wrote, “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:8-9) Two things to keep in mind: 1) God’s time is not our time and; 2) He’s merciful. By the way, I still have no idea why my mom was late, I just know my ‘tude’ didn’t help.
Please bring up some food to share as folks will hang around, talk and eat together following the service.
The place will be full of food and people this Sunday, please don’t hesitate to hang out after the 2nd service…..and invite a friend or two to join you. If your last name begins with A-S bring a traditional Thanksgiving side dish (church will provide green bean dishes) and T-Z bring a dessert. If your last name begins with an X, bring some blackened catfish and deep-fried okra. We’ll need your help to flip the auditorium after the 2nd service this Sunday and put out the tables. Drop your food off at the kitchen and make sure all the food you bring is ready to be served when you drop it off (label your dishes/serving utensils). All dishes can be picked up on Sunday Night if you forget them.
PRAYER & PRAISE - Wednesday
Nothing is eternally accomplished apart from God’s power. Let’s call on God together. If you’re able, would you also fast at least one meal that day? We’ll meet together at 6:30 next Wednesday for an hour here in our auditorium. Childcare is available.
CHRISTMAS PLAY – “Jingle Bell Beach”
Enjoy the warmth of the Christmas season by making plans to attend one of the showings of the Christmas play this year; 7:00 pm December 8th or 7:00 pm December 9th. A great team of kids and adults are putting a lot of work into a wonderful experience for anyone to consider God’s place in our lives this Christmas.
See you soon,
