January 4, 2018

Hey people of Hope,
I hate running in the dark but with these short days if I want to run, I have to do it in the dark. After many sprained ankles and near misses with cars, I try to live by two rules for running in the dark:
1) Shine the light – I need to be lit up or I’ll be a road patty. I wear reflective clothing and lately I carry a flashlight and attach a cool glow clamp to my body.
2) Stay on the road – If I’m off the pavement, an ankle sprain is only a matter of time in the dark, so I try to stay on pavement as much as possible.
These two simple rules seem to sum up the Christian life also as we’re called by God to run a race (Hebrews 12:1) in a dark world (Ephesians 6:12).
1) Stay on the road – There are temptations to go off-trail in so many directions that leave God out and dishonor Him. (Matthew 7:13-14)
2) Shine the light – Others need to see the good news of Jesus shining through your lifestyle. If your behavior is bad news they won’t listen to the good news of Jesus through your lips. (Matthew 5:14-16)
10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY for HOPE - Sunday
How time flies! Hope has been in existence now for 10 years. There will be a celebration with cake in the lobby this Sunday.
Join Jeff and I for a lunch and discussion about Hope Fellowship after the 2nd service this Sunday. This is for anyone who is interested in getting to know us and learn about the church a little more. We’ll also explain membership in case you’re wondering about that. Childcare is available for this. We’ll meet in the big room at end of the children’s hall at 12:30.
WOMEN’S STUDY – January 9th
Ladies! A great way to start the year with a perspective of health in a study called Made to Crave.  Meetings will take place on Tuesdays at two different times with childcare included. Mornings from 9:30-11:00 am and Evenings from 7:00-8:30 pm. Don’t forget to mark your connection card this Sunday.
MAN CLASS – January 9th
Join me for a 10-week study called STEPPING UP – A Call to Courageous Manhood. In a culture intent on defacing true masculinity, this study lays the foundation for men to think through what it truly means to be a man. We’ll be meeting on Tuesdays at 7:00. Email me back to let me know you’ll be there! At the end of this class laminated “Man Cards” will be handed out.
There will be a memorial service for Tia Strasser on Friday, January 19th at 2:30 here at Hope
What a great opportunity we have to think through how reasonable our faith is compared to false philosophies that surround us. Not only that, but we also have the opportunity to invite and expose skeptical, questioning, or cynical people we may know to some solid reasons for faith in our God. For planning purposes use the following link to sign up for the Saturday night seminar on February 24th (https://hopefellowship.breezechms.com/form/ceccf6 ) Frank will also be delivering the messages on Sunday the 25th. Childcare will be provided.
At Hope we use an online directory called “breeze”. We want to make sure we have all the correct information so that you can be invited or informed about calendar and ministry events. If you have an account that’s great! Please go in to your account and make sure all your information is correct. If you do not have an account, you can get one easily by emailing Jeff at jeffsmith@hope-fellowship.net. So, all we need you to do is either update your account or email Jeff to get one.
Just throwing it out there. Dan Frazier and I will be running a half marathon on July 21st this year and we’re checking to see who’s inclined to take the plunge. Email me back if you’re thinking you may want to crack the whip on yourself and give it a shot. The site to find out about this run is https://www.rainiertoruston.com/b-o-half-marathon/
See you soon,
