Hey people of Hope,
I used to know someone who would use the phrase, “That’s about as funny as a root canal!” every time a joke was played on him. Until recently I never fully appreciated the true weight of that expression. In case no one’s told you before…. root canals aren’t funny, they’re “owie”. My dentist suspected I needed a root canal when I told him my tooth felt like someone drilled through the top of it without anesthesia. Two root canals later, I get the fullness of what my friend was saying! Have you noticed that the greatest comfort comes from people who can relate to what you’re going through? I’ve had a front row seat to many painful experiences people have suffered and by far the greatest comfort offered comes from people who have trusted God through a similar situation. We read in the Bible, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4) If you’ve trusted God through a difficult set of circumstances, keep your eyes open for someone struggling with the same thing…. God may use you in their life to bring comfort.  By the way, if it’s a root canal…. I’m your guy!
CHRISTMAS PLAY – This Friday and Saturday!
“Jingle Bell Beach!” Make plans to attend one of the showings of the Christmas play this year; 7:00 pm Friday or 7:00 pm Saturday. A great team of kids and adults are putting a lot of work into a wonderful experience for anyone to consider God’s place in our lives this Christmas.
Members only. A reminder for the meeting in the auditorium after the second service. We’ll approve the 2018 budget and affirm new elders and deacons.
WOMEN’S CHRISTMAS MUG & MUFFIN – December 16th
Ladies! Jump in on the Annual Ladies Christmas Gift Exchange with an optional Cookie Swap on the 16th from 9:30-11:30! Bring a wrapped gift costing between $10-$15 and one of your favorite brunch dishes to share. You DO NOT have to participate in the cookie exchange to attend. It is an added bonus…..but if you plan to do the cookie swap there are specific instructions at the information desk in the church lobby. Invite a friend!! Childcare is provided for this event.

We’ll have only one morning service at 9:00 am and two Christmas Eve services; One at 4:00 pm and one at 6:00 pm. The morning service will feel similar to our normal Sunday services while the evening will be focused more on a special candlelight experience. I would highly encourage you to invite someone to join you on Christmas Eve, especially for an evening service. They will hear the good news of Jesus very plain and simple. Christmas Eve has become the most likely time an unbelieving person will visit a church so please pray for someone and invite them to join you.
FRANK TUREK – February 24th & 25th
We’ll have a special visit from author, speaker and defender of the faith, Frank Turek next year. We’re asking everyone to make plans to attend his seminar Saturday and invite anyone you know who needs reasonable answers to some big questions: How do we know God exists? Why should I trust the Bible? Is there evidence to support Jesus and his claims? I encourage you to check out the following link and peruse some of his Q&A clips;
See you soon,
