Hey people of Hope!
Leslie planted some pole beans in our garden by mistake this year. After they were planted she wondered if we should pull them out and plant something different. I said, “No no nooooo, I’ll put some poles in and they’ll be fine!” so I put in some 6 footers. Well, judging by the size of the thriving bean plants, maybe I should’ve put in something different. I extended the poles to nearly 7 or 8 feet and the beans are still outgrowing them. It grieves me to see the vines growing beyond the top of the poles searching the sky for something to wrap themselves around. They eventually doubled back and started wrapping around themselves. It reminded me of people without God…… always searching for something to hold on to and getting all wrapped up in the wrong things. “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me…….” (Jeremiah 9:23-24) In case you haven’t noticed it’s also easy for people who do know God to start wrapping themselves around things they shouldn’t. “The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.” (1 John 2:17)
Let’s continue to reach for the things God has for us. As for my pole beans……I’ll give them something better to grab onto next year.
This Sunday I’ll begin a 4-part series called, Lessons From Sodom and Gomorrah. We’ll begin by taking a look at “The Mesmerizing Allure of Culture”
CHURCH HIKE – August 25th
We’re taking a hike at Sheep/Chrystal Lake near Mt. Rainier. We’ll leave from the church lot at 7:00 am and be home before dinner. Mark your card Sunday if you’re thinking about joining us.
PRAYER & PRAISE – August 30th
As we kick off our new ministry cycle on September 10 with a mailer being sent to the community, we must recognize that we have no ability to accomplish anything apart from the power of God. Please join us as we call on God to do His work. August 30th at 6:30PM
A mailer will be sent to our community in September inviting folks to visit sometime. I’ll begin a message series on September 10th called “Building Good Relationships” that would provide a great opportunity to invite someone you may be praying for and reaching out to.
KICKOFF SUNDAY – September 10
As a new school year approaches and a new routine settles in for many after Labor Day, our kickoff Sunday will be an exciting time to focus on a new start this fall.
FOOD – After the 2nd service will be an opportunity to eat together
FUN – We’ll have a large, blow-up kids slide and bouncy house available
FAIR - we’ll be displaying many of the opportunities to plug in here at Hope in the lobby.
Invite someone you’ve been praying for to join you as a mailer will be sent to our community inviting them to join us this fall.
Our church is scheduled to bring meals to serve homeless men from September 1st to September 7th. If you’d like to sign up to help, there will be a schedule on the information desk in the lobby.
A great way to find connection and friendship centered around Bible learning, prayer and possibly some food would be to become part of a small home group. Some new groups will be starting up in September so please contact Jeff if you’re interested or have questions; firstname.lastname@example.org
